INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT

The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009. The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009. The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).

Here are some updates for the people who are absent on Friday, 27 Mar 09:

1) We are going to have an assembly performance for the lower sec on Wednesday, 1 Apr 09. We will be excused from school by 12.05pm and will end by 1.15pm. Those who have lessons after that please do return back to your class.

2) There is going to be rehearsal everyday from next monday onwards, the following are the rehearsal timings:
Monday, 30 Mar - 3.30pm-6.30pm
Tuesday, 31 Mar - 3.30pm-6.30pm
Wednesday, 1 Apr - No rehearsal. Performance counted as 1 rehearsal.

Hey ppl!! Sorry for not updating.. I am too busy with everything that is happening.. Anyway, here are some updates about the angel and mortal system.. Here are the 4 dates where there will be a big angel and mortal exchange:

Hey AMKSS choirsters,

Tomorrow is the big day for us as it will be our second annual concert whereby there are no other choir except us!! Please do work hard and learn your songs properly[ Morning wake up sing and practise, sing in bathroom while bathing, sing to your parents during breakfast, etc] Every single efforts counts.

Anyway, good improvement of the Altos in today's rehearsal. Continue to stay with that positive attitude and mentality to sing well. I want to see that for all rehearsals and not only rehearsals when we are preparing for something.

Well done for Sops where your are super consitent for all rehearsals just rmb to keep the balance, dun overpower other sections!

Tenors and basses... Hmmm.. Not really good... SO please do your homework... If you do not understand ask me or aaron!! Or any other seniors like ZHE YU! Anyway, left tmr, so just try your best! I have the confidence in your.

Please remember that even though it is good to practise and learn your notes well with dynamics and phrasing, we are humans and we need rest. So please do take a rest if you feel that your throat is alittle uncomfortable.

Hey choir members!!

EXAMS are over... It is time to concentrate all your energy on choir!! We have a concert in 3 weeks time and we all better be mentally as well as technically prepared!!

These are the policy for these few weeks!

1) LEARN to LISTEN

Listen to instruction from either teachers or committee members. Listen to each other in a section. Most importantly Listen to yourself.

2) ASK when in doubt!!

Ask SL, Mrs. Sassarak or any senior when you do not know your notes or how to phrase the song!

3) THINK positively for all rehearsals

No matter how Mrs. Sassarak or SLs reprimand you for your pitching, singing technique, DUN GIVE UP! Treat it as they want to help you to be a better chorister and most importanly they care about you, if not they will just ignore!

SO all these spell L.A.T!!

That is what I want all of your to remember for this few weeks and even all your life as long as you are a AMKSS choir chorister.

Hope you all a busy mugging for your FINAL YEAR EXAMS!! Please do study hard and not slack!!

This period is for your study hard.. After your exam period, EACH and EVERYONE of your will have to concentrate fully on choir, sing hard, play hard. So enjoy your studying period cause after FYE, it is back to having fun and singing in choir and be prepared for rehearsals as we are going to have 3 shows on NOVEMBER:

1 November - Our 2nd annual choir concert at SAM
10 November - A combine school concert, VOCAL MANIA 2008 at SCH
26 November - AMKsian open house

We have gotten a BRONZE for our A Cappella Championships.

Don't be too upset or disappointed. If you gave your best, there is nothing to regret!! Anyway, we have a performance on this Friday,15 Aug, for the Lunchtime performance. Now our goal is to aim to perform very well for that show and let the school be impressed by this choir which has just turned POP!

Hey Choir,

WELL DONE for today's performance. Some comments from the seniors..

1) FOREVER MOTOWN was better than the start

2) Ain't No Mountain was alittle off.

3) Upper voices should have been louder

4) Lean on me was off. [ Could not hear the solos(ALTOS!!)]

5) Quite out of tune for the starting 3 songs(Sharp+Flat)

Reason: - Did not listen

- Did not revise the song properly

6) Look alittle too dead, not enough energy level [Especially BOYS!! ]

7) Sound is not uniformed enough, quite messy

8) Jeremy Lee was good!! As in SERIOUSLY!! [Alot of praises from everyone]

Hey choir, these comments are not here to put you down. It is here to inform you all how do we improve to be a better choir. Even the committee will have to improve on all these, none of us are perfect and we will work it together as a choir to improve each and every of the individuals.

Anyway, this was your first outdoor performance as a new 2008-2009 batch w/o the sec4 seniors. It was not bad. I can say that you all average put in at least 70% effort!! However, it is an average, so some of you all are giving alittle lesser, while some of you all are giving a little bit more. ALWAYS remember this:

A CHOIR SOUNDS AS BAD AS ITS WEAKEST SINGER!!

So please do put in your 100% always!!

This also applys to the emotion and the facial expression.

You cannot have only 1 area of people smiling and the other area people are frowning or with no emotions at all. First of all, it will make the people simling and enjoying themselves look like retards as they are the only ones moving and having fun while the rest are just staying still being DEAD!! So please remember the pointers and comments from the seniors.

Hey choir,

CHOIR CAMP IS OVER!!! I hope that all of your have fun during this camp and have learnt much from Ms Audrey Chung for the first day and also leanr much about each other during the 3days!

From this camp, we can see the strength and the weaknesses of our choir. Our strength is that we are able to sing and we do have the determination to do well and sing well, but it is not always present in all rehearsals. Therefore, we will have to put in 100% - 200% in all rehearsals! no lesser than 100% arh!! Your have shown 110% before, I do not see why you must go lower than that!

Hello choir!
Here to say some stuffs to the A Cappella team!
Hope you guys are getting on fine. There are only 6 teams competing so jia you!

Okay here are some tips. Maybe you'll fine it useful in one way or another.
1- The judges are not just looking at your singing. I'm sure your singing are fine. Presentation plays quite a big part. If your presentation is good, it can pull u up and if it's not, then it will pull u up by alot.
2- What i mean by presentation? Good posture, smile, enthusiastic. And if you are dancing or u have any other choreography, please do it properly with all your heart. If not, you will look as if you are unwilling to perform.
3- If you are nervous or shivering when you are waiting for your turn to perform(esp when you are next), just groove at the side of the stage. It's okay. It always work for me. I'll move or dance a bit whenever i come on the stage. If not i will start to feel very nervous.
4- During rehearsals, use the time! Do not waste time. Cooperate. Contribute. Play your part.
5- And lastly, on the day itself, give it your all! Do your very best so that you will not regret. It would be disappointing if u never win a title due to a few points lacking.

Yeah that's all. I am anticipating to watch you guys compete. So don't let me down! Take care! (:

please really really do your best and practise as much as you can this month!
you know there isnt really much time ahead.
i can see that all of you are trying hard to learn your scores.
but whatever the outcome is, please do not give up.
it's the experience that counts.
of course, we do want to win a title.
still, what is more important is that you all have fun and gain a memorable experience.

Hello peeps! Got miss me already? hahas. Jus kidding. I hope you did fine for the first ever choir rehearsal without the seniors. :) Jiayou on your new song yea?
Anyway, just want to say that although the other seniors and i are not there physically, we would always be there to support u guys all the way! I'll continue to update the blog and add words of encouragement for all of you. :)

Wow. The day we have been looking forward to is finally over. The stress is finally gone yea?
I want to say that we all have done well. Dun be upset beacuse we didnt manage to dig that gold.
But we know we did our best rite? Like everyone said, think it tis way choir, the last time when we got a Silver for SYF, we were a SSAA choir. Now, we are a SATB choir. In my opinion, it is impressive to maintain our Silver even though we changed from a SSAA, to a SAB, and finally to a SATB choir in less than 2 yrs. Impressive isnt it? :) We shoud be proud ourselves. Some of us thought that we would get a bronze. But we got a Silver. Isnt that above our expectation? Again, we should be proud of ourselves. But, we can do even better the next time rite? For the choir members who are going to participate in the SYF next time, do work hard from now onwards yea? Go dig that gold for us who are going to leave soon. :) Do ur very best. :)

Hey Choir.
We have been sounding not our best lately. And this is due to all ur sore throats and stuufsd rite?hahas. I have sore throat and stuffy nose now too. So i hope that everyone will take extra care of urselves and recover asap k? The Vocal Mania is on friday and the SYF is just around the corner. It will be very dissappointing if we nvr do well becus of our sore throats rite?lol.
So u guys can give things that helps the throat to your mortals yea? Like honeywater, or honeywater wif lime.hahas.stuffs like that.Dun give chocs and sweets yea! :)
Okay that's all for now. Hope everyone will get well very soon and prevent from eating oily food, chocs, and sweets. It's only until after SYF lah.Ours is on the first day!Yay...hahas.Kk.Cya!

Ur classmates,family members,relatives,neighbours,tuition friends,friends' friends,your neighbours' friends,your primary sch friends,your tuition teacher..hahas.jus ask everyone aight??Must sell as many tickets as possible!!!!!!!
